Movies are Stories

Learning Objectives

Students will understand how traditional storytelling skills are incorporated into movies, using that understanding to exercise their own storytelling skills.

Students will build off ideas of gender explored in the first lesson, applying the concerns which were raised to a creative endeavor.

Materials Needed

  • Art supplies - such as paper, crayons, markers, etc.

  • Your student's drawing/character idea from Lesson 1

  • A way to take notes with your student

Purpose for Research Project

My goal is to use the story created by students to develop a concept for a full-length animated film. I have noticed that writers of children's films tend to write the kinds of stories that they want to hear, so I am hoping to prove that a compelling film can be made from the genuine ideas of children themselves.
